13th June, 2013, Ankara: On Thursday, Turkey Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan gave a final warning to protesters who occupied a park in Istanbul. He told them to leave or they would be forced out. Local media reported that the Prime Minister told that the government would no longer wait and see.
The protest started around two weeks ago and later the protest spread to other cities in Turkey as well. Protesters accused Recep Tayyip Erdogan of trying to impose Islamic values on an otherwise secular country.
The Turkey Prime Minister delivered his final warning just a day after he met a group of intellectuals in capital Ankara over the development planned for Gezi Park. After the meeting, a spokesperson stated that the government might consider a referendum on the project. It added that the whether to preserve the park or to go ahead with the program could be decided by the voters in Istanbul or people live near Gezi Park.
