4th July, 2013, Cairo: On Wednesday, the Egyptian army ousted their president Mohamed Morsi following a week long protest and deadly clashes. According to reports, Muslim Brotherhood leader Morsi is now under house arrest. Yesterday, Egypt armed forces chief General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi declared the news on state television. The local media also reported that arrest warrants have already been issued for around 300 Brotherhood official.
As soon as the news broke, protesters in Cairo erupted in joy and some even started fireworks. The army intervention has been backed by millions of Egyptians including top religious figures as well as liberal leaders. The protesters want new elections under new rules.
Leading to this, protesters asked for Morsi’s resignation. Morsi supporters and protesters engaged in fight in several places in the last few days. Some protesters called it second revolution. In 2011, millions of Egyptians took the streets to overthrow Hosni Mubarak.
